Conseil Consultatif des Barreaux Européens -CCBE

The Conseil Consultatif des Barreaux Européens (CCBE) is the organization for European bar associations. In total, more than 30 European countries' bar associations, with more than one million lawyers, are represented in the CCBE. The organization has its headquarters in Brussels. The Norwegian Bar Association is a member of the CCBE.

The CCBE adopted the Code of Conduct for European Lawyers on October 28, 1988. Norway acceded to the rules. CCBE's Code of Conduct applies to legal practice across national borders ("cross border practice").

CCBE's Code of Conduct has been amended three times since 1988, most recently on May 19, 2006.

The International Bar Association - IBA

The International Bar Association (IBA) is the world's largest and leading organization for lawyers and national bar associations. More than 50,000 lawyers and over 200 bar associations are members of the IBA. The organization works closely on international legal reforms, and exerts influence on the development of the role of lawyers worldwide. The Norwegian Bar Association is a member.

IBA's International Principles on Conduct for the Legal Profession (IBA's International Principles) were adopted on 25 May 2019. The purpose of IBA's International Principles is to:

"...aim at establishing agenerally accepted framework to serve as a basis on which codes of conduct may be established by the appropriate authorities for lawyers in any part of the world."

The IBA's first legal ethics rules, the International Code of Ethics, were adopted in 1956.
